Planned futuristic cities in Johor Malaysia

News #230: New Phnom Penh airport update, MRT3 Circle Line, Manila MRT-7 still on track, elevated cycling bridge in Singapore, Koh Chang Bridge, Incheon Airport Group to manage Long Thanh Airport

The Future Southeast Asia Newsletter features transport and urban development news in Southeast Asia, edited by James Clark.

This week accidentally features two articles from Johor. I usually try to geographically spread the articles out, but these two stories demanded my attention.

The first article is about IBTEC, which is a newly-concocted new urban area. A famous architect is planning part of the city, but there is little information about it. I created a fact sheet to keep track of the development.

The second article is about Forest City, which has become best known as a ghost city. This article was first published in the newsletter in 2022. The newsletter format doesn’t allow many photos and some of the photos went missing. I’ve republished it with more photos.

I will be publishing a News Extra newsletter for paid subscribers this week.
