Bangkok's Makkasan redevelopment plan
New Phnom Penh International Airport takes shape, Kuching ART to begin construction in 2022, and Saigon's 'ghost tower' has a new developer.
Bangkok Feature Month continues this week with a look at the proposed redevelopment of the Makkasan train factory and railyard. This land has been lying idle for so many years that it’s starting to resemble a jungle. You can get a good overview from the Airport Rail Link.
It’s hard to believe that such a large block of empty land exists in central Bangkok, and there have been calls to turn this into a park. The most recent announcement said that the tallest building in Thailand will be built here. It remains to be seen how much of the land will be kept as parkland if any at all. It may also just remain as a jungle for another decade, so I will keep posting news here when it is known.
