The new central station of Jakarta
Tram proposal for Semarang, the historic Scala theatre demolished in Bangkok, and Vietnam to commence North-South express railway construction...in 2028.
Manggarai Station in Jakarta is set to become the second largest station in Southeast Asia, behind Bangkok’s Bang Sue Grand Station. Bangkok has the geographical advantage of being the central hub of mainland Southeast Asia, so this is a title that will not be taken. While jakarta will never have any international railway services, the island of Java has a population of over 150 million people.
It’s also worth noting that the Jakarta-Bandung High-Speed Railway will not go to Manggarai, so Jakarta may end up having a few large stations (like London and Paris), instead of one central station. For now though, Manggarai will be the station that most resembles a central station.
